The world’s top-ranking badminton players will pit talents against outstanding local shuttlers when the 11th Albee’s Cup Badminton Tournament opens Dec. 5, at the Pohang Badminton Center, along Dr. Pablo O. Torre Street in Bacolod City.
Leading the pack vying for the top honor in men’s singles is Thailand’s Boonsak, ranked No. 16 in the world, while No. 6 ranked player and world’s No. 15 Sudkiet will play in the mixed doubles.
The three-day tournament will give Bacoleños a chance to witness high-caliber badminton action while providing local players an opportunity to improve their skills.
Games start at 4 p.m.
Meanwhile, the Philippines Badminton Association hopes to revive competition in the Philippines Open in 2009 after shelving plans to hold it this year.
In an interview with Manila reporters recently, PBA’s Amelita Ramos announced the revival of the tournament next year, saying that the staging of the Beijing Olympics in August prompted the organizer to postpone the competition.*NAB
