Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita will be the guest of honor during the 71 st Charter Day celebration in Bacolod City on October 19, Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson said yesterday.

The city has adopted the theme “Bacolod Going Beyond Expectations” for this year’s Charter Day celebration because as a highly urbanized city, the performance of Bacolod in these past years is very laudable compared to that of other highly urbanized cities, he said.

Sayson cited that Bacolod has surpassed some local governments in terms of employment generation, as well as, programs set forth by the mayor like the Solid Waste Management program.

He said it is notable that Bacolod is one of the highly urbanized cities that has launched serious effort for the implementation of its SWM program.

The city’s infrastructure development under the leadership of Mayor Evelio Leonardia is very much better compared to that of other highly urbanized cities, Sayson said.

It has also embarked on a flood program which has, more or less, lessened the incidents of flooding in the city, he said.

Meanwhile, Sayson said the countdown to the Charter Day on Oct. 18 will be held for the first time at the Bacolod City Government Center .

He said video screens will be provided at the old City Hall, the plaza and along Lacson Street for a synchronized countdown celebration.

Sayson said the over-all chairman of the Charter Day celebration is Councilor Roberto Rojas while the chairman of the Banwahanon Award is Councilor Homer Bais.

Councilor Alex Paglumotan is the chairman of the Charter Day parade, he said.*CGS
