The irregular coastline of the country extends to about 35,000 kilometers, twice as long as the entire coastline of the United States.

leadpic2Western Visayas or Region 6 shared this islands and islands together with the rich fishery resources from its nine major fishing ground: Visayan Sea, Cuyo East Pass, Tanon Strait, Sibuyan Sea, Saipan Sea, Panay Gulf, Guimaras Strait, Iloilo Strait, and the Jintotolo Channel.

Bagumbanua Island is an elongated island covered with white sand and green meadows with vegetation dominated by Roma Species. Average water temperature at the surface is 26-27 degrees celcius. Prevailing winds are from the north-east starting November to April and the south-west starting from May to October. The North-East Monsoon frequently brings gusty winds.

amenitie2Marine/coastal environment is characterized by a shallow sandy coralline substrate with gradually sloping topography. More than 40 percent of the bottom on the northwestern and northeastern portion is covered by seagrass of identified species namely: Enhalus acoroides, Cymodocea rotundata, Haludole uninivers, and Thalasia hemprichii.

Jomabo Island Paradise Beach Resort is the newest landmark in this part of Negros Island. It is one of the tourist spots for domestic and foreign tourists.

How to get there

Bacolod City is the entry point to Negros Occidental. By air Bacolod is 45 minutes away from Manila and 25 minutes from Cebu. Philippine Airlines has three daily flights from Manila and a daily flight from Cebu. Air Philippines and Cebu Pacific Airways also have two daily flights from Manila. Bacolod is accesible by boat from Manila (18 hours) and from Iloilo City (2 hours by regular boat, 1hr by fastcraft).
